All children are different and you know YOUR child the best when it comes to their comfort levels. Your child must be comfortable swimming in the ocean. Swimming in a mermaid tail or mono fin is very different than with fins and requires kids to be comfortable. In addition, the tail and mono-fin will not fit unless your child is a minimum of 50 lbs and wears a shoe size of 1-4.
We have a variety of colors and sizes available. Though we cannot guarantee we will have your request on the day of your lesson, we will certainly do our best to accommodate you. Please give us a call to request a color.
We do! We stock a selection of colors and sizes from The 2 Tails. You may purchase online or call us to make an appointment to try on and/or purchase in person.
We offer digital web quality photos taken by our mermaid instructor with a GoPro. If you would like professional photos, we can help you find a photographer. Please note this would be in addition to your mermaid swimming lesson and not included.
Due to the nature of the way our wind a waves tend to pick up on Maui, we conduct mermaid swimming lessons in the early mornings. Occasionally the weather does cooperate enough to conduct a late morning lesson, however we would not know this until a day or two prior.
Swimming in a mono-fin is a very different experience, using different muscle groups. For this reason, we ask that all participants are comfortable swimming in the ocean.
Yes! We provide ski belts as floatation as well as a raft with handles for you to rest.
We do supply snorkel masks. We want you to be comfortable in the water and a snorkel mask can help get you acquainted with swimming in the mermaid tail. It is entirely up to you and your comfort level whether or not you would like to remove the mask. Many guests choose to do this for photos.
During busy seasons such as winter and spring breaks, we recommend booking at least two weeks in advance of your visit.
Though you may want to arrive early to find parking, use the restroom or make sure you are in the right place, the check in time for all lessons is the time listed on your confirmation email, you do not need to show up earlier than the ‘start time’.
Parking is available at Makena Landing Beach Park however, it can be seemingly unconventional on Maui compared to other places. Be prepared to park on the side of the road, not in a marked parking lot.
The weather in Maui is constantly changing and is comprised of several microclimates. National weather websites tend to paint a forecast with a wide brush stroke without taking into consideration the microclimates. We closely monitor several localized weather forecasts so as to make the best decision about the weather before your lesson. We usually make the call to cancel the day before a lesson. Occasionally we will make the decision onsite the day of your lesson after performing a visibility check. We do not cancel our lessons during rainy weather unless it is causing visibility issues in the bay. You are going to get wet anyway right? We will, however cancel our lessons if the conditions are unsafe. High wind, large waves and lightning are examples of unsafe conditions. In the event of unsafe conditions, you will be presented with the opportunity to reschedule for another day or cancel without penalty.
Due to the fact that our lessons sell out on a daily basis we have a strict 72 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel or change your confirmed reservation within 72 hours of scheduled check in time we will charge your credit card the full price of the tour. If there is a medical reason you need to cancel your lesson, please provide a doctors note and we will make an exception.
Yes! Give us a call and we would be happy to process over the phone.
